Following an impressive innings against Surrey in the G&G Trophy, David Brown has been awarded the Thule Champagne Moment of the Season 2006.
Sponsored by roof box and accessory firm, Thule, the Champagne Moment is presented to a player who gives an outstanding individual performance during the season. All-rounder David only joined the squad earlier this year, and was presented with the honour by Thule¹s Marketing Manager, Peter Barker at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club¹s annual awards dinner.
The 24- year-old secured the accolade when, on his debut, he came in at number nine in Gloucestershire's clash with Surrey and hit 63 off 22 balls.
Knocking five sixes and seven fours, and reaching his fifty by straight driving Ian Salisbury's leg-spin for six off the fourth ball of the last over, David was still going strong at the end of the 50 overs, helping the club to victory. Although he modestly attributed the win to teammate Ian Harvey, saying: "Harv did the hard work up front. I swung the bat a few times and got lucky," the newcomer is clearly thrilled that his performance with the bat has won him the Thule Champagne Moment.
"Thule is enormously proud of its association with Gloucestershire County Cricket," said Mr Barker. "Both the Champagne Moment and the Player of the Month awards enable us to demonstrate our commitment to the club and of course our pride in the player¹s achievements."
