Orbea - For Goodness Shakes!

A new year and a new name for what was previously the BMC UK Racing Team.

Now titled the Orbea- For Goodness Shakes! Team, in 2010 this group of 12 elite cyclists enter their second year as a Thule Partner in Sport.

The team is formed with riders from the Eastern region of England. The core focus is on the development of young riders, to give them the experience necessary to compete at the highest level in the UK.

The team will ride in the Premier Calendar, National Circuit Series and Tour Series, as well as selected UCI International events in 2010. This year they plan to be plan one of the highest profile teams in the UK Peloton.

The team’s manager, James Whatling, commented on the Thule support: "In 2010 the team will be travelling a great deal, and so the Thule transportation equipment and luggage will be a huge help when packing up all the equipment we travel with.”

BMC UK Racing have had a packed start to the summer – competing in the national Tour Series in 10 races across Britain and getting several key wins under their belts.

The team made a wonderful start to the Tour Series in Milton Keynes on 21st May, with Adam Norris and Steve Griffiths noted as ‘ones to watch’. The team saw the ITV4 aired competition through to the final stretch in Southend-on-Sea on 25th June.

BMC UK racing also took their 8th win of the season with a triumph in the Beccles Road Race. Adam Norris took the win with Steven Griffiths showing that his form is on the rise after being sidelined with illness by taking a fine second place. The team dominated the results with Dean Shannon 5th, Ben Thompson 6th, Ian Franklin 7th and Andy Lyons 14th.

Joe Skipper also took a fantastic victory in the Eastern Regional Road Race Championship at Saffron Walden. Joe finished an emphatic display of team work with a strong uphill sprint after 156 km of racing to take the win from Dominic Schils and Duncan Urquhart. The team really showed their strength with six riders in the top ten.
